FAQ
Questions
Do I need a phone or app?
No. DopeSpin is a standalone device with its own display, dial, and ballistic solver. You enter rifle and ammo data on the unit and read holds in the field without pairing to a phone.
What ballistic inputs does it support?
DopeSpin uses a point-mass 3DOF solver with G1 and G7 drag models. Enter muzzle velocity, BC, zero, sight height, twist, and either density altitude or full weather inputs. Holds output in MIL or MOA, with optional spin drift and aerodynamic jump.
Can I save multiple rifle profiles?
Yes. Save unlimited rifle and load setups and switch between them on the device. Each profile holds your bullet data, sight height, zero, drag model, hold units, and related settings.
How long does the battery last?
DopeSpin is rated for 8+ hours of continuous use. It charges over USB-C and includes auto sleep and auto power-off to stretch battery life between strings.
Can I use DopeSpin alongside ballistic apps or other tools?
Yes. Many shooters pair dedicated hardware with apps, Kestrels, or range notebooks. DopeSpin is a focused physical interface for fast reference — it complements your existing workflow.
What makes the dial different from on-screen controls?
The dial is designed for quick adjustments and glove-friendly tactile feedback. It keeps ballistic data where your hands already are — without replacing other tools you rely on.
What's included with purchase?
Each unit ships with a pocket-sized clamshell case and Velcro backing so you can mount it on a tripod, pack, or shooting mat.
Can I use it for PRS or stage shooting?
Yes. Compete lets you build a target card with multiple distances, elevation holds, and wind holds for a stage. Update range or wind as conditions change and keep the whole stage in front of you.
Does it calculate moving target lead?
Yes. The Movers screen figures lead from target speed and distance, with elevation and wind on the same view — same ballistic engine as your main solution.
Can I switch between yards and meters?
Yes. Set your distance unit in Settings. Range readouts on Shoot, Compete, Movers, and related screens follow your preference.
How do I account for weather and altitude?
Open Environment from Shoot and enter temperature, humidity, pressure, or altitude — or use Density Altitude mode if that is what you track. Holds update when conditions change.
Can I fine-tune a load to match real impacts?
Yes. Drag Scale in profile edit lets you adjust the solver at a truing distance until your holds match what you see on paper or steel. The profile keeps that value for next time.
Does it work with Ruuvi weather tags?
Yes. From Environment, tap Update from Ruuvi to pull in live temperature, humidity, pressure, and density altitude when your tag is nearby.
Is there a night vision mode?
Yes. NV mode switches the display to red-safe colors for low-light use. Set brightness to NV in Settings, or use the hidden dial gesture on the Settings screen to toggle it quickly.
